How Many Heroes can Marvel Stuff in a Movie?

As many of you will have noticed, Marvel don’t seem to be able to do a Solo film anymore, with other heroes seeming to pop up in each and every movie. This happens in both first films and sequels, so lets have a look at how many heroes Marvel have put into the Cinematic Universe films, not including post-credit scenes, but, I am including cameos… that I remember… So here is the list

  • Iron Man – Iron Man
  • The Incredible Hulk – Hulk
  • Iron Man 2 – Iron Man, War Machine, Nick Fury, Black Widow
  • Thor – Thor, Hawkeye
  • Captain America: The First Avenger – Captain America, Nick Fury
  • The Avengers – Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Maria Hill
  • Iron Man 3 – Iron Man, War Machine, Iron Patriot
  • Thor: The Dark World – Thor, Captain America
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Captain America, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Falcon
  • Guardians of the Galaxy – Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, Rocket Raccoon
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron – Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, War Machine, Maria Hill, Nick Fury, Falcon
  • Ant-Man – Ant-Man, Wasp, Falcon
  • Captain America: Civil War – Captain America, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Vision, Black Widow, Black Panther, War Machine, Spider-Man
  • Doctor Strange – Doctor Strange
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 – Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, Mantis, Yondu, Nebula
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming – Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America

Now I know that seems like a big list of names, so lets make it some sort of order:

  1. Avengers: Age of Ultron – 13
  2. Captain America: Civil War – 12
  3. Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 – 9
  4. The Avengers – 8
  5. Guardians of the Galaxy – 5
  6. Iron Man 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier – 4
  7. Iron Man 3, Ant-Man, Spider-Man: Homecoming – 3
  8. Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World – 2
  9. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Doctor Strange – 1

Now lets take away Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy films, as we expect those to have lots of heroes in, as they are team up films.

  1. Captain America: Civil War – 12
  2. Iron Man 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier – 4
  3. Iron Man 3, Ant-Man, Spider-Man: Homecoming – 3
  4. Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World – 2
  5. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Doctor Strange – 1

Now this changes things a lot. At first we had a large list of big numbers, but now we have one and no guesses which one. Captain America: Civil War was basically an Avengers movie in the perspective of Captain America.

But if we ignore that movie, what we see is that Captain America movies tend to have more heroes than the average, while Thor movies tend to have less.

It also shows that Doctor Strange went against the pattern that Ant-Man had set by having only one hero, while Spider-Man: Homecoming used it’s new MCU connections to it’s fullest having three heroes in it’s first movie, a trait only shared with Ant-Man.

Question of the Post: Did you expect so many heroes in Captain America films? Discussion in the comments.
